Ghana Deaf Volleyball Association concludes 1st DVC championship in Winneba

The Ghana Deaf Volleyball Association (GDVA) has concluded its 1st Edition of National Deaf Volleyball Championship which was held at the premises of National Sports College, Winneba in the Central Region.

The participating teams I the males division were the Black Cats of Greater Accra Region (SUPIKE), the Crabs of Central Region (OGUA), the Twins of Western Region (OBIRI) and Osmosis of Eastern Region.

In the female division, Spot On (Western Region), Royal Empresses (Greater Accra) and Volleyball Gurls (Central Region), all took part.

During the games, the rivalry between Black Cats and the Crabs continued as both teams sought to overpower each other but a spirited performance of the Cats conquered the master class of Crabs who fought their way through and eventually won Silver.

In the female division, Volleyball Gurls won gold while Royal Empresses came second with silver with team Spot On taking the 3rd Position.

Held under the auspices of the Italian National Deaf Women’s Volleyball Team, the aim of this year’s edition was to empower deaf persons through volleyball by actively engaging them in games intended to unearth talents and groom them into responsible, independent and useful individuals for their families and the nation.

The event will also serve as a situational study towards the organization of subsequent events in the coming years such as volleyball championship for schools for the deaf, Regional volleyfest,  coaching and refresher courses for DVC coaches and sports teachers for the schools for the deaf just to mention a few.

The theme for this year’s game is “energizing the youth with the passion to play volleyball!!!”

The association extended gratitude to Mr.  Kwaku Owusu-Aidoo of Santa Baron Company Ltd-Accra and Blue Skies Company-Nsawam, University of Education, winneba, Winneba Senior High School and everyone who supported in one way or the other to make the program a success.
