Yamin backs George Afriyie to contest GFA Presidency

Joseph Yamin

Former deputy minister of Youth and Sports, Joseph Yamin has declared his support for George Afriyie to become the next Ghana Football Association (GFA) president.

The aspiring Ashanti regional chairman of NDC described Afriyie as a credible candidate who possess the qualities needed to run Ghana Football.

His comments come on the back of Afriyie announcing officially his intention to contest the 2019 presidential election.

The Vice President wants to replace his boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi, who has confirmed he will step down in 2019.

“George Afriyie is a credible candidate as he possesses the qualities needed to run Ghana football.

“I have some respect for George Afriyie, not only him, Kwesi Nyantakyi, as well having worked with both. So I think he is more than qualified to replace Kwasi [if he steps down]. But I wouldn’t stick my neck out for George until others announce their intentions too,” he said on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite.

GFA president, Kwesi Nyantakyi has said in an interview that he does not intend to seek re-election in 2019 after serving three previous terms beginning in 2005.
