Police gun down one robber, arrest another in Kumasi
Police have gunned down one suspected armed robber and arrested another at Atwima – Owabi in the Ashanti Region.

Suspects Charles Vivor alias Destiny and Issah  Wedam who both jumped bail in narcotic cases pending at Nkawie  Circuit Court were also purportedly involved in the recent robbery at  Esaase – Bokankye motor road  resulting in the shooting and death of deceased  Kwabena  Fosuhene.

They were arrested in  an identified house at  Owabi village upon a tipoff and interrogation,  both admitted possessing guns, ammunition and also took part in some of the robberies at Esaase – Bokankye motor road and mentioned their accomplices as Egollah,  Azumah,  Mmoyah, Appolor and Kwaku all at large.

After admitting their involvement in the recent Bokankyi robbery, suspect  Issah  Wedam led  police  to  their room  where  two  locally  manufactured  guns, a  cutlass,  assorted  mobile  phones, leather  ammunition  belt  with  four  live  cartridges,  a  sword,  a  pinch  bar,  a  black  backpack  containing  assorted  ID  cards, other  financial  institutions  documents  and  large  quantity  of  assorted  provisions  suspected  to  have  been   seized   from  their  victims  were  found  and  same  retrieved.

Whilst police was escorting suspect  Issah Wedam in a pair of handcuffs into  a waiting service vehicle, he took to his heels and made his way through a bamboo bush at the banks of the Owabi river.  Police opened fire and the suspect was hit by one of the expended ammunition and sustained injury at the back.

He was re – captured and rushed to  Abuakwa  Health  Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue for preservation pending an autopsy.

Suspect Charles Vivor alias Destiny is in custody.
