Proper royalty structure better than shows and endorsement – Edem

Edem

Ghanaian rapper, Edem, has said what the Ghana Music Industry needs currently are not shows and award schemes for artiste but rather a better publishing and royalty structures that will feed the artiste family even when the artiste is no more.

According to him, these structures are of more essence as compared to the numerous awards schemes and shows organized on a daily basis.

Edem made this comment after a post by the manager of Mr Eazi in a tweet indicated that the family of the late Ebony will not enjoy from her hard work because the country lacks the needed structures to take royalties for her family.

He said “What is painful is, there are no proper publishing and royalty structures in place for the family to benefit from the airplay and musical legacy she left behind. In a “real world” her music should feed her family after she’s passed”.

Edem in replying this said “Deez one hia pass show, endorsement and any award an artiste gets”.

Payment of Royalties to Musicians in Ghana has been a worry over the years as there are no systems to track how songs by Ghanaian artistes are used. For such reasons, some artistes are paid as low as hundred Ghana cedis for their works by the association in charge of artistes royalties.
