No matches at Baba Yara Stadium on Saturdays

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium will not witness any football game on Saturdays, Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA) in the Ashanti Region, Joshua Mensah has told the media.

The NSA representative unequivocally made this clear at the launch of Kotoko’s Confederation Cup campaign at the stadium’s conference room on Tuesday. Since its renovation for AFCON 2008, facilities at the stadium continue to deteriorate and thus require money to maintain them lest the stadium has to be closed down.

Joshua Mensah said football games can’t sustain the maintenance of the stadium adding that, other social activities like funerals and weddings will help them raise revenue for the upkeep of the stadium.

“There will be no games here on Saturdays. The stadium will soon collapse if we solely rely on the revenue of football games. Social activities are our major priority on Saturdays and any other football game will be on except Saturday” he said.

“I’ve informed teams playing here in the second division of this development and they’ve welcomed it. The NSA are also aware of this in Accra” he ended.
