I spoke with Bawumia, he’s very well – Mustapha Hamid

Latest to reveal the health status of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia is Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid, who had a conversation with him early Saturday.

"He’s very well and Insha Allahu, he will be back home very soon,” the Information Minister announced on news analysis programme, Newsfile, on JoyNews TV.

Mr. Hamid is the second high-profile person in the governing New Patriotic Party to report on the health of the Vice President after Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, cousin of President Akufo-Addo, wrote on his Facebook wall about “some moments” he had with Dr. Bawumia when he visited him in London where he is on a medical leave.

In the post, Gabby urged the public to disregard news on social media purported to be circulated by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the Veep is surrounded by Doctors and Nurses in the UK.

"I am told Guys Hospital staff are very unhappy. Many Ghanaians trooping there asking to see a patient they’d never heard of - not even his picture rings any visual bells - don’t believe what you read in NDC ‘news’. Well, I’m in London and have had opportunities to spend some good, jovial and intellectual sweet moments with Dr Bawumia but far from the view of any nurse or doctor; in some small, decent flat he has rented for the very short time he is away here on leave. My mistake was to attempt to tease him about his team, Tottenham Hotspurs. I wish I hadn’t!"

Meanwhile, Parliament has convened to swear in the Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye to act as President till January 31.

This is to fill the vacuum created by the absence of President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who has left the country for Ethiopia to participate in the 30th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).

From there he will go to South Africa where he is expected to attend Hugh Masekela's funeral.
