GHANA NATIONAL DIALOGUE FOR MOBILE ENABLED DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION


The Chief Executives of AIRTEL, MTN, TIGO and VODAFONE operation in Ghana, including representatives of United Nations Development Program (UNDP),and UK aid,Department for International Development( DFID) ,met today on the  23rd October 2017 at Accra international conference centre (AICC) to consider how Ghana can take a leadership role to advance digital and economic inclusion through mobile, together with the GSMA, which represents the global mobile Industry.

These leading Telecommunication in Ghana had a  dialogue with the Government of Ghana represented by Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful (Minister of Communication). Mr.Akinwale Goodluck, who is the Executive member of( GSMA) emphasized that, "mobile enables the most widespread and inclusive means of accessing the internet and digital technologies,which are vital to the formalization of the Ghanaian economy and it's growth in an increasingly digital world.

"Reviewed the transformative impact of mobile communication on the people and economy of Ghana and it contribution to digital and financial inclusion. In the 25 years since mobile was established in Ghana, the industry has connected 67 percent of the population, which amounts to million individual. To date, it has connected nearly half the population to the internet through their mobile phone, the second highest rate in West Africa: it the mobile Industry has supported financial inclusion through the 8 million mobile money accounts active in the country,he said.




Mr.Akinwale Goodluck explained that,they will coordinate and support efforts from the Government of Ghana, mobile operators and the GSMA, to facilitate the development of an enabling social, business and policy environment for digital transformation in Ghana.

Jointly highlight our achievements across the continent to position Ghana as a leader in bringing private and public sector together to achieve Digital transformation. Also establish Technical working Group to expedite implementation of the agreed actions for digital transformation,he said.
