There seem to be possible clashes feared between some youth of Juapong in North Tongu District of the Volta Region and Fulani Herdsmen in the area.
The youth who are members of ACORN Fun Club became vociferous following destructions caused to an Agricultural Project they have embarked upon by cattle belonging to some Fulani Herdsmen in the area.

Several acres of corn and Cassava belonging to the group were destroyed entirely by cattle that were ‘led’ unto the farm by the herdsmen.

Revealing this to the media in Juapong, Wisdom Edem Sokro, President of ACORN Fun Club says in wake of the huge unemployment in the area, the youth decided to come together and commence an Agricultural Project with aim to use proceeds that will be derived from the farms to help members to start small businesses on their own and wondered why such a huge investment would go down the drain due to lack of respect for law and order in the Juapong area by Fulani Herdsmen.

According to him, several reports made to the police in Juapong could not stop the Fulani Herdsmen in the area from causing destruction to their farms.

He added that, leaders of his club can no longer guarantee safety of Fulani Herdsmen and their animals in the area since members of the club and other youth in the area are now fed up ‘and armed to the teeth’ in defense of their property he told the media in Juapong.

There have been several calls by His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo led government for the youth to go into agriculture which is described as the best alternative in resolving the unemployment situation in Ghana. Government in showing the way recently introduced a programme dubbed

‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ which will see several hectors of arable land cultivated. Issues of Fulani Herdsmen and their animals causing destructions to farms is being experienced in several parts of the country with worst situations in Agogo and Adaklu areas with Juapong recording the newest.
Several calls by Chiefs and other opinion leaders for Herdsmen to not raise their animals close to people’s farms have all fallen on death ears.
Mr Wisdom Edem Sokro is therefore appealing to the Inspector of Police David Asante Apeatu to as a matter of urgency instruct the Police in Juapong to act professionally by dealing with the situation by calling Fulani Herdsmen in the area to order so as to avoid possible clashes.
He also has cautioned youth in the area to not put the law into their own hands but rather wait patiently for the Inspector General of Police to come to their rescue.
‘’The fact is the youth are highly disappointed in the Police in Juapong’’ Mr Sokro finally stated with some anger.
ACORN Fun Club is a youth Fun Club with over 200 members brought together with aim to resolve unemployment amongst the youth in North Tongu.
