Facebook set to pilot a new feature that will stop Catfishing

After receiving multiple complains from many countries across the world, the social media giants have designed a programme to put a stop of catfishing.
According to a blog post from Facebook, majority of the complains has been from India.
In India, we’ve heard that people want more control over their profile pictures, and we’ve been working over the past year to understand how we can help.

The new feature being tested in India, will stop someone from stealing another person’s profile picture.  Users will have more control over who views, downloads and shares their profile pictures once the feature is activated.
Android users will not be able to screenshot profile pictures of other users.
The new feature was made public ahead of the first ever Facebook Communities Summit in Chicago, USA, for Group admins on Wednesday.

The term catfishing is inspired by the 2010 documentary “Catfish”, detailing a young man’s relationship with a woman who uses a fake identity online.
